Kids Rugs are Educational
If you have created a beautiful room for your child, there is no need to leave the floor as a dull neutral background although a solid colored neutral floor is the most practical option. (A plain floor means you can ring the changes with the room decoration later without changing the flooring). You can still choose neutral flooring and have an interesting base to the room, however, by adding colorful kids rugs to brighten up the floor.
Kids rugs are great because they add, not just a touch of color, but they can also be educational.
1. Colors
From the earliest years, brightly colored rugs can help you to teach your child colors, whether you have a red bus on your rug, a blue sky or a rug covered in rainbow spots.
2. Vocabulary
Kids can learn some early words by naming the objects on their rug. Many of these rugs are covered in animals, vehicles or other everyday objects, which they will soon get to know if you talk about them.
3. Story Time
As well as naming the images and the colors in a rug, each picture in a rug can be the start of a story you tell your child, which can spark their imagination and start developing a love for stories and reading in general. Reading is such an important part of a child’s education, that anything you can do to promote interest in it, is well worthwhile.
4. Numbers and Letters
If you have a number or alphabet rug, it can help with numeracy and literacy when you child gets beyond the baby stage and becomes curious about the “symbols” on the rug. With so much early learning repetition is important and this is an easy way for your child to see and hear numbers and letters every day.
The small area rugs you can buy for kids rooms are generally just a smaller version of the rugs which have been specially developed for nursery schools to promote a learning environment. There is no particular rug you need to buy, any rug with pictures and colors can be a talking point for you and your child.
